Multiple Sclerosis Personal Health Budgets
Islington Clinical Commissioning Group is committed to ensuring local residents get the personalised care and support that suits them. Choice and Control gives people more of a say over their care.
The CCG has made personal health budgets (PHBs) available for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients, so they can access more rehabilitation services if they wish. A PHB is an amount of money identified to go towards meeting your health needs. For example, it could pay for seeing a physiotherapist or occupational therapist in a NHS rehabilitation team.
We recognise that you are the expert in your condition. We want to enable you to make informed decisions by involving you in your care planning with your clinician. Two people may have the same diagnosis, but the support they are likely to benefit from long-term might be very different. A PHB allows you to plan, with your NHS rehabilitation team, how to spend the money in a way that makes most sense for you.
The process starts with an assessment of your needs to determine if you require rehabilitation support from the NHS. If you do, your health professional will talk to you about the best way for you to get the support. It could be from a NHS rehabilitation team, or your PHB could be used to pay for support from outside the NHS. If appropriate, your PHB can be used to purchase a wide variety of services.
- physio sessions
- exercise classes
- complimentary therapies
- chair-based Pilates classes
- personal trainers qualified to work with people with neurological disorders
- therapies like massage and reflexology
If you think you might be eligible for a PHB, please speak to your Islington GP, social worker or MS health professional and request a referral to the local Whittington Community Rehabilitation Team.
