Promoting care and compassion in nursing
The event, which took place on Wednesday 10 September 2014, was built around the national “Hello my name is…” campaign started by Dr Kate Granger and explored themes of care and compassion. The aim of the conference was to celebrate nursing in Islington and to learn from shared experience.
Speakers included Professor Elizabeth Robb, Chief Executive of the Florence Nightingale Foundation, NHS England patient champion Ashley Brooks, the Islington Integrated Care Pioneer Programme and Joanie Speers, a member of local Islington patient group Voices for Change.
There were also market stalls from local community health services and an interactive ‘Talking Heads’ station, where guests were able to share their views on what care and compassion in nursing meant to them.
Dr Gillian Greenhough, Chair of NHS Islington CCG and a local GP, said:
“This conference was a fantastic opportunity to bring together nurses from across the whole of Islington and to highlight the importance of providing high quality, compassionate and personalised care. Nurses were also able to share their own experiences and ideas from colleagues from different organisations, an approach that is central to our vision of providing integrated and effective care for all.”
