What is the right to know?
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives people a general right of access to information held by, or on behalf of public authorities, promoting a culture of openness and accountability across the public sector.
What sort of information can I request?
You can request any information that Islington CCG holds that does not fall under an exemption (see below).
How do I make a request for information?
Your request must be in writing and can be posted or emailed to:

Can my request be refused?
Our commitment to publish information excludes any information which can legitimately be withheld under the exemptions set out in the NHS Openness Code, or the Freedom of Information Act. Where information is subject to exemptions, the most likely reason is for the protection of commercial interests and personal information under the Data Protection Act 1998.
What information do we publish?
The CCG has a publication scheme by which we make any of the following information routinely available:
- who we are and what we do
- what we spend and how we spend it
- what are priorities are and how we are performing against them
- how we make decisions
- our policies and procedures
- lists and registers
- the services we offer
- a log of Freedom of Information requests and disclosures
- a summary of information we do not have
Do I need to pay costs?
Responses to most requests will be free of charge, but you might be asked to pay a fee for photocopies or postage. The charges will vary according to how the information is provided and its format. We will let you know the cost and charges that have to be paid. We will also give you the option of altering your request to reduce the cost, if you wish.
In addition, some requests for large amounts of information, which will take a lot of time or cost a lot of money to comply with, we may charge for. Anything that would take more than 18 hours to complete, or cost more than £450, we will charge for our administrative staff's time at a rate of £25 per hour. Again, we will give you the option of varying your request, if you wish, to reduce the cost.
Are there any restrictions on what I can do with the information?
You are welcome to use it, as you wish, in line with the open government licence for research and news reporting. However, any further use will require our permission as the copyright holder of the information we disclose. You may not use it in a manner that implies an endorsement by Islington CCG, or the wider health and social care system, without permission. If you do re-use the information we would be grateful if you would acknowledge the CCG as the source.
We also ask that any personal details, such as email addresses, that are given out while responding to your inquiry, are not used for direct marketing purposes, or passed onto others for such purposes.
What about patient records?
There is a separate procedure and policy for accessing personal health records, whereby an individual can request either to see their record, or request a copy of their notes. If you want to access your GP medical records, you will need to contact your GP surgery and arrange with them to either view your records, or request a copy of them.
How quickly will I get the information?
You will receive the information you requested, or an explanation of why we are unable to provide it, within 20 working days of our receipt of your inquiry. If we need more time, we will contact you and tell you when you can expect the information.
